Tai Chi Shoes

Practising Tai Chi requires special footwear. Trainers tend to give too much ‘grip’, and socks too little, as well as being a little dangerous in case you slip. Special Tai Chi shoes generally give just the right amount of grip and slide capability, and on the whole I find, help balance.

I am often asked about what shoes to buy for Tai Chi classes. There is a wide variety available on the internet. Unfortunately I have never found anywhere local to Skipton where you can try on!

I have photographed some of the shoes I have, and am adding the links (for you to copy and paste) to the lace up varieties below. The elastic types photographed, I have bought through Amazon. They currently have shoes starting at under £5 and going up to £18 or so. I don’t have any in particular type that I would recommend. Delivery can be slow, as many are coming direct from China. They generally come up a little big, so I have found it is best to order a half or full size smaller than you would normally. The elastic gives a little, and they are canvas, so room to stretch!

Here is a link to a black elastic variety available from the UK that I have not bought but know people who have who are pleased with them. They are currently costing £12.
